Who We Are
Hi! We're Daisy Bell—two NYC-based parents of a child with hearing loss. At 1-day old, our daughter failed her newborn hearing screening. We chose Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) as her mode of communication. We're working every day to help our little girl to listen and speak and are excited to share our journey with you!
Daisy Bell publishes content from a parental perspective—to empower parents and spark imagination. We are not doctors, teachers, or clinicians. The LSL professional community offers many amazing online resources—we highly recommend them! We see Daisy Bell as a supplement to these resources, but not as a substitute.
LSL
Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) is a way to teach babies and children who are deaf or hard of hearing to speak and listen. It uses hearing technology (such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices) and spoken language therapy. When hearing loss is detected early, LSL may help children develop language capabilities comparable to their hearing peers.
At Daisy Bell, we learn and practice LSL strategies as parents, but we're not clinicians. To learn more about LSL from a professional perspective, see our article with links to websites in the LSL professional community: LSL Resources Online.
At Daisy Bell, we love to celebrate the many silver linings of the LSL lifestyle we chose for our daughter. But we're not in a position to recommend any course of treatment or mode of communication to individual families. We recognize that each child and family is unique and may have differing needs and circumstances. We chose LSL because we saw it as the best option for our child, given her individual needs.
While Daisy Bell cannot recommend clinicians or technologies for any individual child, we do occasionally publish content that may help parents navigate these options. We suggest you use the search feature on our website to locate helpful content.
Sure! There are many wonderful LSL resources on the Internet. Many are written from a clinical perspective and offer a depth of professional expertise. We recommend you check them out! We wrote a blog article featuring some of these resources.
